Nairn - Things to do and see

Nairn is an attractive seaside town on the Moray Firth coast just east of Inverness (one of the UK's fastest growing cities). Nairn has been a popular holiday destination since the last century, with a host of features that continue to offer visitors a memorable holiday experience.

The town boasts some of the top beaches in the UK that have gained national recognition for their high standards and clean water. Nairn's two 18 hole championship courses are renowned worldwide, including the Nairn Golf Club which staged the Walker Cup in 1999.

Auldearn - Things to do and see

The village of Auldearn has origins dating back to 12th Century when a castle "Old Oren" or "Eren" dating back to the 1100s. The remains of the matte are the site for the 17th Century Boath Doocot. Auldearn was also the site of one of the battles between the Covenanters and Royalists on May 9th 1645, in the field adjacent to the Covenanters Inn. The Church, rebuilt in 1757 is dedicated to St Colm whose name is commemorated in the annual St Colm's Fair. The graveyard is where the witch of Auldearn, Isobel Goudie, is supposed to have met the devil - she was later burnt at the stake!
